(9.6.2007) Fall Rush 2007

Welcome everyone to the Fall Semester. Back to classes, football, and of course Fraternity Rush.

Tuesday, the brothers and a handful of potentials caught Superbad out at Showcase Cinemas.

Friday, there will be a few brothers out at Mary Markley hall playing volleyball around 4pm. If you happen to be around there at that time, stop by even if you don't like volleyball. You'll recognize us by the man with the Foo Man Chu mustache (Like Hulk Hogan without all the muscles or TV show).

Saturday, the brothers will be around 903 Lincoln Ave. for some tailgating before the football game. Come check out the house, meet some of the wonderful ladies of Delta Phi Epsilon, and have a great time.

Friday, September 21st, Pi Kapps will be hosting an E.A.Sports game night. More details will be posted soon. Also look for bowling, a meet and greet at the house, and a CCRB sports night TBA.

(4.25.2007) Semester Wrap Up

The Alpha Pi Class Initiated. Some of their accomplishments include renovating our kitchen, having a successful PUSH America Basketball Bracket fund raiser, a two day road trip to Michigan State University, in addition to their already outstanding house involvement. Congratulations to the following newest members of Pi Kappa Phi.

Michael Tanis
Justin Hummel
Christopher Convery
Robbie McBurnett
Kevin Button
Sean Traver
Jeremy Verbit
Andrew Boyd
Brett Steudle
Sharief El-Gabri
Louie DeJonge

Greek Week ended well, with "The 4 Team" taking 3rd place overall. Paired with Alpha Chi Omega and Sigma Lambda Beta, notable Pi Kapp accomplishments include a repeat Volleyball Victory, and saw Junior Brandon Johns have a rematch against his Alpha Sig nemesis in the final round of musical chairs. Although he won it all last year, this year he only took second.

Roseball was a tremendous success. The efforts of Chris Mark and Dan LaLonde led to one of the largest turnouts ever, seeing alumni come from as far as Florida and California. We look forward to next years already.

(2.19.2007) Chapter Updates

Journey of Hope: This year we boast 3 members participating in the Journey of Hope. They are Senior Andrew Cramer, sophomore Ryan Spotts, and freshman Colin Eaton. They are currently fundraising, so alumni and friends we need your support. Links to their profile and donation pages are available at http://www.michiganpikapps.com/joh2007.php.

Recruitment Success: Alpha Kappa has had among the most successful winter recruitment classes. EAsports made an appearance at the house this semester, and the relentless recruitment efforts managed to draw 13 associate members. We have the potential to become an 83 member house by April.

Amongst the members is an active leader in Young Americans for Freedom, a former Central Michigan future Michigan Cheerleader, and a State record holding soccer goaltender. They've already shown great signs of brotherhood and leadership.

Ice skates will be provided. If you can't ice skate, we will provide you with a chair to hold as you scoot across the ice.

Friday January 19th: CCRB Night. Last Friday it didn't work out because a large portion of us were traveling to St Louis. However this week, it will be a success, I promise you guys. (11.4.2006) Lots of Good News

Alpha Kappa has been really busy lately. Here's a quick recap of recent events.

Alpha Kappa had a successful parent tailgate, October 21st. We invited parents of both the associates and the actives for a potluck lunch and Michigan vs Iowa State Football Pregame. We had an awesome turnout, and would like to thank everybody involved in making the event possible and even more importantly the parents who came and made it a success.

Alumni Weekend was also a great success, with alumni coming from as far away as Florida to pay a visit. The actives would like to thank Brad Harris and his wonderful wife for setting up the Alumni Dinner on Saturday. We would also like to thank Steve Rom for coming by not only Saturday, but Sunday to give a presentation to the chapter about his battle through leukemia and new found knowledge of life.

We are in the midst of setting up friendship visits with the St. Louis center. A group of brothers and associates visited the St. Louis center Friday, November 3rd and met with the administration who showed the boys around the facility and gave them background information about the organization. We are excited for good things.

Intramural Softball won the house's first championship of the year. Congratulations to everybody who participated. We anticipate good things from the Wally Ball, Broom Ball, and Football teams who are now in season.

The website has been updated with the latest Alpha Kappian, availible in the Alumni section, and the latest Pi Kapp Parent availible in the Parents section.

(8.9.2006) Good and Bad News

Starting with the bad news, the greek community has been shaken with the injury to Sig Ep student, Blake Heidenreich. He was unfortunate enough to dive into unexpectedly shallow water, causing spine injuries and as a result current paralysis. Pi Kappa Phi keeps a quick and full recovery for you in our thoughts and prayers. Friends of Blake have put together a support site for him, including stories as well as a place to order "Blakestrong Bracelets" or make PayPal donations. The link to that site is www.xanga.com/blakeheidenreich. More information is also availible from the Michigan Daily here.

On a much better note, Michigan Pi Kapp Ben Luster stopped in Ann Arbor last week on this years Journey of Hope. Ben is the third Pi Kapp to participate in the Journey of Hope in the last two years. The Michigan Daily covered his story in an article titled "'U' Student Rides Cross Country for Charity" which can be seen by clicking here.

(7.24.2006) Strategic Planning & Retreat

We are tenatively planning on having the Strategic Planning Retreat on August 26 and 27th. We will have the actual Strategic Planning on Saturday morning most likely in the Union. We will then proceed to drive to Sterling, Michigan for a canoe trip down the Rifle River followed by a campout Saturday night. This is a mandatory trip for all Executive Board members, and will be open for any other members who wish to come. I would like to have complete attendance for this important aspect of our chapter. Please get back to me if you are going to be in town to make the event. Thanks. For more details, get in contact with myself or Chris Kozak at ckozak@gmail.com

(7.8.2006) Pi Kapp Golf Outing '06

The 2006 Pi Kapp Golf Outing is set for July 22nd at Hickory Sticks Golf Course in Ann Arbor. The address is 8753 Pleasant Lake Rd, Ann Arbor (Google Map) Our Shotgun time is 11:45, which means you should arrive by 11am.

As it was last year, the cost will be $65/person, this includes round of golf, cart, dog/pop at turn, prizes, dinner at the house afterwards.

Also, as it has been, we'll be playing a scramble so you don't have to worry if you suck...unless your whole team sucks, which in that case you probably don't care anyway because you're out there to have fun, which is after all the reason we hold the golf outing.

For additional information or to sign up, contact Wade Callahan at wcallaha@umich.edu or Dan LaLonde at dlalonde@umich.edu.

(1.16.2006) MYLC

This past weekend, 11 Michigan Pi Kapps attended the Mid Year Leadership conference in St Louis, MO. Aside from meeting other great Pi Kapps from other great Pi Kapp Chapters, we learned a great deal about where we want to go with our fraternity and how we are going to get there.

We also met with Housing Corp. to confirm that renovation to improve our house will continue -- with our bathrooms being revamped and fixed, our basement being furnished once again along with maintenance to our cieling.

Alpha Kappa keeps progressing for the best, we look forward to a great semester and a great upcoming rush.
